1919 -- when he was 13, he worked with his uncle as a tar boy and general hand on sheepstations.
1927 -- he played before a crowd of 9000 people and was a huge success.
1932 -- Doug joined Fitzroy
1939 -- problems with a knee injury forced him to retire
1940 -- he was back at Northcote as a non-playing coach
